I used to think people were rich if they...

1. had more than one salad dressing bottle in the fridge.

2. had over two cans of soup in the cupboard.

3. shopped in a department store/mall for clothes.

4. drove more than one car.

5. owned leather couches.

6. had two bathrooms in their house.

7. could buy bulk food.

8. had a clothes closet that was too full to close.

9. bought hair products from a salon.

10. called long distance without checking the time of day first.

11. had a computer

12. wore more than one pair of runners

13. owned lots of soft, fluffy towels.

14. bought Dove soap bars

15. had bikes for each person in their family

16. could choose what shoes they'd wear with their outfit

17. and lipstick colour to apply

18. used brand name products especially diapers

19. ate cold cereal

20. went on holidays especially somewhere warm

21. owned a TV much less watched it on satellite

22. went shopping for fun and BUY THINGS

23. had a fish tank

24. had a house full of toys

25. flew to a destination

26. went to Bible College

27. went for pedicures

28. could consider adoption

29. signed up their kids for extra-circular activities

30. decorated their homes and trees with Christmas lights

31. didn't have to share their bedroom

32. owned bone china dinnerware

I guess I am very rich...looking back at my childhood mental list.

I can't help but wonder what my kids will think 'rich' is as they grow up. My prayer is that they'll feel rich in God's love ...cuz that's what really matters!

Wow. Yea, I don't think I thought about being rich much until 7th grade and then it was all about what brand clothes you wore---"Guess" was the big thing. I remember my mom telling me even if she could afford to buy $50-$60 jeans she wouldn't! I totally get it know.

Good post -- good perspective.

It's a wonder what we thought of as rich when we were kids and then when we grew up and got jobs, forgot about those things....I hadn't thought about cold cereal or satellite t.v. until just a few weeks ago.

Sigh. I hope our kids think of rich as having a family and many friends that love you and care for you, and full tummies and warm beds and a God that will be with them wherever they go.
