...or maybe this is a long question...
This is my dilemma. I am in the market for a new camera. I want a good camera yet not too impossible to work with as I am new to photograghy. Everyone has their own views and reasons to have a certain one, salespeople share their thoughts and favorites and websites have a tons of stuff to sift through...which makes for much confusion for me!
I have an older point and shoot digital, though I'm not a pro, I want more from my pictures (and yes, it is mostly my lack of talent) and I am planning to take a course shortly.
God willing, Kris and I are heading to Ethiopia within the next two years to pick up our newest addition to our family. We are greatly encouraged by our agency and friends in the process to take many pictures when we finally meet our child...( okay, here come the tears again...this has been such an emotional process...actually much harder and trying and completely out of my hands process...but that's another post or 3000!!!)
Anyways, back to cameras, do you have any thoughts on cameras you could help me with? I want a SLR but I'm worried about it's balkiness, price is a little more and if the dust gets in it, it's expensive to clean and fix. And because of my inexperience, I waffle on this purchase though I am interested in a Canon Rebel...
A really good point and shoot camera doesn't have the same quality, the zoom isn't as far, and I'm not sure about the size of enlargements I can make...and some of these expensive kinds are very near the lower priced SLR...though I'm thinking of a Canon S-3 point and shoot.
Ahhhh....so much to think about... this momma can barely wait to meet her baby, I know that it'll be sooo emotional yet glorious...so any thoughts to help her make this small yet meaningful purchase...would mean the world!

Ah that is SO exciting your new addition, WOW it must be really emotional!! HUGS!!
About the camera, I have a Canon Rebel xt and I love it, it is very user friendly and there is a step by step guide/course for free online as how to use it so you can save the money on the course.(here is one I found just now, not the one I was using but I am not at home at my computer but here is one http://www.shortcourses.com/use/) There is the new Rebel that just came out the Canon Rebel XSI with built in image stabalizer(very important in my opinion). I am NOT a professional photographer and just wanted to take different types of pictures so I chose the Rebel, great picture quality without being too heavy and oversized.....well that was long...lol...hope that helps!!
Here is a tutorial from Canon itself http://web.canon.jp/imaging/enjoydslr/index.html
thank you for your kind words! thanks also for the sites...very helpful...wow that's lots of info!!! i guess it comes easier as you just figure out your camera and actually practice!!!right?
Well, we just got a Canon A720 because we thought a SLR would be too big to take to Bolivia (and we're trying not to look like tourists). We have been very happy with it, and it's pretty easy to use and takes great pictures. We looked at consumer reports and they say good things about it. Happy camera hunting! And blessings to you too!
I wish I had some advice.... I posted a while back, too, that I wish I had a better camera! So, when you get one, let me know what you think, and then I'll know what to get too! :)
I am so excited for you in your journey of adoption and look so much forward to celebrating with you when the time comes to meet your new little one!!
Hi Andrea, how's it going? It was great to see you and Kris the other day! Sounds like your vacation was packed with some good family times. As far as the camera question, I asked Paul his opinion between the two you mentioned (he's a bit of a Canon fiend!). He has a Rebel and I have an S-3. His comments were that if enlargement was an issue, you wouldn't need to worry, as even the S-3 shots could be blown up pretty huge (like 20x30). It's a very versitile camera, and has a good lense. And the Rebel would be the way to go if you were interested in buying different types of lenses, but perhaps not so necessary if you'll be sticking to the basic one anyway. Good luck sifting through the info and advise! Love, Sandi
sass and san- thanks for your info about your cameras...i appreciate the info so much
Larissa- i'll definitely let you know what I decide
Hi Andrea, Barb here.
If you want some honest reviews you may want to go to digishoptalk.com The gals there are digital scrapbookers but they are a wealth of information and will share there opinions on cameras. They are scrapbookers so many are also photo fanatics!

i have a canon rebel xti, it's concidered an entry level camera for digital SLR's but an upgrade from the original rebel xt. I LOVE IT! and i totally would recomend it. i'm sure if you want to spend a little less the rebel xt is a great choice too.
