...if we are the body

I was listening to Casting Crowns this afternoon on my treadmill. I was praying about things happening in my life. School starting, a hurting friend, a moving friend, being the Christian influence for my children and others in my life, our baby-in-waiting and the mother having to make such hard decisions, our church falling apart...

As I was in cool down mode, I listened to these lyrics...

If we are the body

...if we are the body

Why aren't His arms reaching?

Why aren't His hands healing?

Why aren't His words teaching?

And if we are the body

Why aren't His feet going?

Why is His love not showing them there is a way?

There is a way

A traveler is far away from home

He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row

The weight of their judgemental glances

Tells him that his chances are better out on the road

Jesus payed much too high a price

For us to pick and choose who should come

And we are the body of Christ

Jesus is the way

If we are the body, how can we make the traveler feel loved and heard? How can we open our arms to everyone in our church, reaching out with love?

do you think our churches are hurting because as church members we tend to function in our fleshy ways instead of depending on the Spirit who has made us new creations? i have pondered this a lot...
