Once upon a time...

There was a boy who was struggling learning at school. This school experience was an adventure.
Last year:
*He loathed school
*He was falling behind his classmates (not comparing...but he just wasn't near his grade level)
*I was felt unheard thus frustrated with the lack of support from his teachers
*I was debating and researching home schooling material. As my mom is a teacher (and not fond of homeschooling), she gave me ideas, books and support to help him on this journey.

But there's a twist. I spoke up. We spoke up. I felt heard.
The school chose to implement a new program and use Ryan was their guinea pig. A fairy godmother...I mean, a teacher went for the training and began working with our son one on one for up to an hour a day (and reading was sent home to supplement the course). Before this point, he was not being able to put many words together nor read an assignment or much else, without giving up and getting super frustrated.
Today:
*He loves school
*He is at his grade level
*His one-on-one teacher has been his angel
*He loves to read
She met me today and shared the wonderful news. He is reading at the level of the end of grade 4...he is finishing grade 3 this year. She then went on to say he would have gone further on in levels but she had tested him beyond his requirements.
Tears filled my eyes. Tears of joy were streaming down my face!
This year has been a process. Difficult to express our concerns yet such a rewarding outcome. And that's what matters. He is finally reading!!!
Words cannot express the feeling as a parent being told he isn't struggling anymore. My momma heart is bursting.
And they lived happliy ever after!

Andrea, I'm so happy to hear that he had such a great year! I'm sure he's very proud of himself, too. :)
