Scenario goes like this:
I send kiddos downstairs while I'm prepping for a craft they have been begging for. I heard some arguing and as I'm getting stuff together, I'm listening to the action, hoping they can figure out a way to work it out. Action turns to screaming. And then, to an all out crying fest.
I take a deep breath and prepare for the daunting task of working through yet another issue. It's been one too many lately...it's like fingernails on a chalkboard...so frustrating!
(On a side note, my kids rarely fight but since our holidays were over, they seemed to have changed!)
So I get down on their level and ask the surrounding witnesses. Sometimes, I think my job also includes being a lawyer.
I hear the story: Girl pushes boy off a chair while he is busy doing something pirate-y. Boy encourages girl on the same chair and pushes her off when she's not expecting it. Boy blurts out is his tears " I did it cause it says to do that in the Bible...do to others what they did to you...I was just doing what the right thing."
Mother covers her head, with the unusual amount of stress lately, she feels overwhelmed.
Seriously!
I thought I was getting somewhere with them. I take an another deep breath and explain the real Golden Rule. We talk about the people he has witnessed that have made poor choices and have hurt others. Boy has a light bulb moment, feels badly, wipes his tears and promises to never do that again. Girl chooses to be kind and a good friend.
I mentally choose to ask for God's wisdom in the good and the hard times and to pray without ceasing.

Wow. Never thought about having the golden rule twisted around like that. Glad you could explain it to them again the right way.
Good teaching moment!
What an afternoon. Well, it sounds like he was listening, just got things mixed up. Sigh...days like those, at least there was a learning moment in there. Hang in there!
oh it must be so tough to be a child and have to learn everything and not always understand stuff the way we thought we explained it!! poor little buddy.... hang in there! :)
You are an awesome mom taking the time to explain it properly. :)
I understand what those days are like when there is lots of arguing, hang in there girl !!!
!! pray....without...ceasing!! i am learning that too.
I love how kids perceive the things that we have taught them. We definitly have to be careful of what they hear and make sure that they understand it correctly. You are such a great mom.
Oh how we are in the same phase of life--but okay, I find humor in this post--is that okay? :)
Girl I am right there with you! My boys fight constantly! It's just a bit more rough b\c they are 8 & 12! Your doing right by teaching them Gods Word. Remember, as hard as it is to get them grown, When they are old they will not depart from it!! Be Blessed!
